Times are changing but people are still dating. After a course of pandemics, recession and new revelations in lifestyles of people overall, singles are using new dating formats and techniques. So what’s new in dating trends in 2023?

We conducted a short study to understand what really works in dating these days. Here is our top list:

There are some other terms for it including “Infla-dating” that covers the economic state of most individuals that start dating online. Due to rising costs, online dating experts predict that daters will go on less expensive dates because of the current economic environment. At the same time they are ready to spend a certain sum on more meaningful dates that provide experience. So if you ask yourself “are dating apps worth it”, I would say “yes”, but you have to find the one that may inspire you and your future date.

2. Using Conscious Dating Apps. 

Most of the professionals are still using online dating apps as their first choice. Each of them has one or two dating profiles on various websites and apps. In 2023 a new term “conscious swiping” is becoming a strong trend. Daters are no longer swiping profiles just for fun. They are very aware of their criteria and look for quality matches and suggestions. 

I would say that quality results curation is one of the most important features for real-time daters online. It may make or break a dating app’s reputation. When looking for the right person on a dating app, people are consciously applying their detailed criteria based on similar interests, goals and motivations. This aspect of life is becoming more important in 2023 as online daters are seeking long-term relationships. 

Desire to go all the way with relationships.

What we mean here is that online daters are not just texting everyone they meet online. They get into the online dating world with the goal of finding their match. At the same time the audience overall is very well educated on dating ice-breakers types, “love bombing,” “gaslighting,” “attachment style,” and, of course, “ghosting.” Therefore, there is no more confusion on people who would stalk you online right away, or create a story with never ending messaging back and forth that never goes to a real date. It is a very positive trend that creates a completely different online dating experience. Serious daters know what they want and who they are. They are ready to develop their relationships with potential matches and meet in person.

Choosing one dating app over hundreds and staying there.

Online daters, especially ladies, now prefer staying in one dating app. No doubt that word-of-mouth is very powerful within female communities. In 2023 women are  finally confidently talking about dating online as a concept. There is no more stigma on this topic any more due to the increasing amount of successful dates and marriages that happened on dating apps overall. The Knot 2022 Jewelry & Engagement Study, which surveyed over 5,000 couples who got engaged or married within the last year, found that over one in four respondents met online. 

Choosing healthy dates and experiences.

A lot of daters online are more active. They choose “healthy first dates”. There is a trend in 2023 to meet your date at a cafe, gym or in a park environment to see a “real” person right away. It is very important for new daters to stay true to themselves to make sure their date matches them in person.
